Few athletes draw a crowd like a champion stepping into the ring. This One Gotta Go card puts four of the biggest names in combat sports together: Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

Three legends keep their place in history, and one is erased. Think about the bouts you watched live, the highlights you still replay and the personality you remember more than the record. Then make your pick and let the sports fans in your group explain theirs, round by round.

Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor

A. Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali was a boxing champion and a cultural icon, famous for his speed, his poetry and lines like float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. His influence went far beyond sports. The only case against him is that younger fans mostly know him from documentaries.

Keep it if: You think he was the greatest ever, in the ring and out of it, and his story still inspires you.

B. Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at 20 and was feared for his power and speed. His early bouts often ended in a flash. His career had big ups and downs, which some fans hold against him when ranking legends.

Keep it if: You remember the excitement of a Tyson bout, when nobody wanted to blink and miss the first round.

C. Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather retired unbeaten in professional boxing with a 50 and 0 record, built on defense, timing and skill. He is also a master promoter. Some fans found his careful style less exciting to watch, which makes him a common pick to cut.

Keep it if: You respect a perfect record and think his ring intelligence is the best the sport has ever seen.

D. Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor became the first UFC star to hold titles in two weight classes at the same time and brought huge new audiences to MMA. He is a showman. His career outside the octagon has also drawn criticism, which makes him a candidate for the cut.

Keep it if: You love his confidence, his big moments in the octagon and the way he made MMA mainstream.

Our take

We would cut Conor McGregor. He changed the business of MMA, but Ali, Tyson and Mayweather each hold a place in boxing history that has stood for decades. The most fun debate usually comes down to Ali against Mayweather, since it is the icon against the perfect record. Ask everyone which bout they would want a front row seat for, and the stories will start rolling. A short highlight reel of each makes a great tiebreaker, and it usually starts a whole new round of stories.
