Theme parks are where childhood dreams and adult screams meet, and every family has a favorite. This One Gotta Go card puts four big names together: Disney World, Universal Studios, Six Flags and Cedar Point. Each one promises a very different kind of fun.

Three parks stay open forever, and one closes its gates for good. Think about the rides you love, the park you visited as a kid and the one that cost the most for the least fun. Then make your pick and share your best or wildest theme park memory with the group.

Disney World vs Universal Studios vs Six Flags vs Cedar Point

A. Disney World

Disney World in Florida is a whole resort of parks, hotels and characters, built around the magic of Disney stories. It is a dream trip for many families. It is also expensive and crowded, and planning it can feel like a part time job, which makes it a bold cut.

Keep it if: You love the castle, the characters and the fireworks, and you feel like a kid again every visit.

B. Universal Studios

Universal Studios brings movies to life with rides and lands like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It is thrilling for older kids and adults. Some families with young children find fewer rides for little ones, which makes it a candidate to cut.

Keep it if: You love movie themed rides, butterbeer and walking through worlds you have only seen on screen.

C. Six Flags

Six Flags parks are spread across the country and known for big roller coasters close to home. They are a fun day trip. Some visitors feel the theming and upkeep do not match the destination parks, which makes Six Flags a common cut.

Keep it if: You love a quick drive to a park packed with big coasters and do not need a full vacation to have fun.

D. Cedar Point

Cedar Point in Ohio is famous among coaster fans as one of the best roller coaster parks in the world, set right on Lake Erie. It is a thrill seeker's dream. If you do not love big coasters, it might be the easiest park to cut.

Keep it if: You live for tall drops and fast coasters and think Cedar Point is a pilgrimage every fan should make.

Our take

We would cut Six Flags, mostly because Cedar Point covers the big coaster crowd, while Disney and Universal offer themed worlds you cannot find anywhere else. The most fun debate usually comes down to Disney against Universal, since it is classic magic against movie thrills. Ask everyone which park they would choose for a birthday trip, and see who is a castle person and who is a coaster person.

Theme Park Vacations: quick answers

Is Disney World or Universal better?

It depends on who is going. Disney World is often the pick for families with young kids and fans of Disney stories, while Universal is popular with older kids, teens and adults who want bigger thrill rides and movie themed lands. Many travelers visit both on the same trip to Orlando.

Why is Cedar Point famous?

Cedar Point, on Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio, is famous for its huge collection of roller coasters and is often called a top destination for coaster fans. It has set many height and speed records over the years. Its location on a peninsula also gives riders great views of the lake.
