Where you sleep can make or break a trip, and travelers have strong opinions about it. This One Gotta Go card puts four options together: a 5-star hotel, an Airbnb, glamping and a cruise cabin. Each one offers a different mix of comfort, privacy and adventure.

Three options stay available for every trip, and one is gone forever. Think about your best stay, your worst one and the place that looked better online than in person. Then make your pick and share the most memorable place you have ever stayed while traveling.

5-Star Hotel vs Airbnb vs Glamping vs Cruise Cabin

A. 5-Star Hotel

A 5-star hotel means room service, clean sheets every day and staff ready to help with anything. It is pure comfort. It is also the most expensive option and can feel the same from city to city, which makes it a fair cut for adventurous travelers.

Keep it if: You love being pampered on vacation, with fluffy robes, room service and a perfectly made bed.

B. Airbnb

An Airbnb gives you a kitchen, more space and the feeling of living like a local. It is great for groups. Cleaning fees, house rules and listings that do not match the photos make it a common cut for some travelers.

Keep it if: You love having a full kitchen, a living room and space for the whole group to hang out.

C. Glamping

Glamping mixes camping and comfort, with real beds in tents, domes or cabins surrounded by nature. It is unique. It can also be pricey for what is basically a fancy tent, which makes it a candidate to cut.

Keep it if: You love nature but not sleeping on the ground, and a cozy tent under the stars sounds perfect.

D. Cruise Cabin

A cruise cabin is a small room that travels with you from port to port. It is convenient. The rooms are often tiny, and inside cabins have no windows, which makes the cruise cabin the easiest choice for many to cut.

Keep it if: You barely spend time in the room and love waking up in a new port every morning.

Our take

We would cut the cruise cabin. It works for cruises, but the other three give you more choice in where and how you travel, from city luxury to group homes to nature getaways. The most fun debate usually comes down to the 5-star hotel against the Airbnb, since it is service against space. Ask everyone about their worst stay ever, because those stories are usually the funniest of the night. Photos encouraged.

Travel Accommodation Types: quick answers

What is glamping?

Glamping, short for glamorous camping, means staying outdoors with more comfort than regular camping, such as real beds, electricity and sometimes private bathrooms. Glamping sites can include safari tents, yurts, domes, treehouses and cabins in scenic natural settings.

Is a hotel or Airbnb cheaper?

It depends on the location, group size and length of stay. Airbnb rentals can be cheaper for groups or longer trips, especially with a kitchen, but cleaning and service fees can add up. Hotels may be better value for short stays or solo travelers. Reading recent reviews and checking the total price with every fee included is the best way to compare fairly.
